video I did with Cruz, Casey and Truly today is my first collaboration with these folks, and I can’t wait to show you Vicers what we’re cooking up next.If you’ve enjoyed what we’ve gotten to do in 300 odd episodes of the Vice Pit over the years then, trust me, we’re seriously leveling up today – – jumping straight to Super Saiyan.Unfortunately, the site itself will be discontinuing

PARASYTE – THE MAXIM #24 — Watch & Learn

Shinichi and Migi have a long conversation about nothing, asking insipid questions like “What is humanity?” – – more desperate to be taken seriously than the kid who grabbed all the lowest-hanging Emerson soundbytes for his senior quotes.Things get a little more exciting when the serial killer re-appears, but all excitement is quickly doused when he and Shinichi engage in philoso-babble and start punching the “What is humanity?” bell in the hopes that somebody will be impressed. When he muses about whether he should “impose human values on other species,” you aren’t hearing the thoughts of a three-dimensional character who believably evolved after he avenged his mother’s death

BLEACH Ch. 618 Review

To confront the devil Yhwach, Captain Shunsui offers a deal with the devil everyone in the Soul Society both knows and fears. The GoodWould you like to play a game?Okay, I’m so pleased to see that Shunsui didn’t go into this negotiation with Aizen waving all the keys in front of him without any level of precaution. The discrepancy between both fronts of the story as far as pacing goes has really been taking its toll in recent weeks

GTO #1 — Retro Review

It also stretchescredulity a little that this big badass would just let a bunch of kids get awaywith photos of him in a compromising position while they’re still in his living room.I’m sure GTO goes through a hilarious character arc after this. The scenes just write themselves

JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE – BATTLE IN EGYPT #2 — Watch & Learn

It might be the only showwhere breathless on-the-nose dialog breaking down fact tactics is actually partof the charm, and the endless deathbed confession at the end might be one ofthe best camp gags ever seen in the show.In hindsight, though, this doesbolster my observation that the show’s biggest weakness is that the mangachapters can’t be broken up smoothly in the page-to-frame transition. I get a feeling these newnames reference some obscurer deep cut from the Oingo Boingo catalog – – andthey’re real proud of themselves for finding it

THE ROLLING GIRLS #1 — Special Review

They all just go down tothe amusement park (without telling Macha-Green about the card first) and geton a roller-coaster which…SURPRISE OF ALL SURPRISES…turns out to bebooby-trapped.As Nozomi and her friends head toward a section ofroller-coaster track that’s been blown out by the villains, the credits beginto roll and…I’m pretty sure I’m supposedto care whether Nozomi will live or die in the next episode…but I kindof…don’t.As I said before, this show is visually amazing, and if you’re one of those anime fans who likesto watch shows for the art and animation, then you’ll probably enjoy this verymuch

DURARARA!!x2 #1 — Special Review

Season onetended to spend more time on slice of life antics and character developmentthan on supernatural action) the heroes would, instead of coordinating, joiningforces and working together, often try to handle their trials and tribulationsalone.Despite their lack of organized cooperation, over the courseof season one the heroes managed to defeat a mad scientist who was stealingpeople’s organs, and stop a supernatural slasher (who enjoyed cutting peoplewith enchanted blades that turned them into brainwashed slaves) and avert agang war. This first episode of season two picks up a few months afterseason one left off and spends most of its time demonstrating that, now thatthe action-packed events of season one are behind them, the characters havemostly returned to their usual routines, and are living their normal lives (theterm “normal” is relative here of course) in calm laid-back slice-of-life-animepeace

YATTERMAN NIGHT #1 — Special Review

What’s harder to picture, though,is a revival series about Dick Dastardly’s young son growing up in isolatedisland sanctuary, in a world where the Ant Hill Gang has re-written history, and he’s trying to live up to his family legacy by becoming a hero. I’d be the lastguy to poo-poo but… it just seems very, very meta for the franchise. Then again, around the time CROWDS came out, there was alsoa live-action GATCHMAN movie that was truer to the spirit of the original

PARASYTE – THE MAXIM #14 — Watch & Learn

Shinichi’steacher always had an icy T-1000 vibe, and the parts where she handles her baby like luggage and forgets how to laugh properly are some of the most chilling scenes yet. It’s interesting to see Migi going through something of acharacter arc, too, especially because a lot of the particulars are being leftto the viewers’ imagination. Now, we’re gettingback to form
