CUTICLE DETECTIVE INABA #1 – – Special Review

This honestly felt like somehalf-baked SNL sketch that keeps getting air-time only because whichever actorcooked it up has been on the show for a long time and the producers feel obligated to throw him a bone. There’s a specific texture to a comedic premise that’s being pushed pastits suitable shelf life after it wasn’t that well thought-through to start with, anyway. ), and a slight smirkwould flash on it for one moment – – flashing so fast that you’d seriously wonderif you just imagined seeing it

PSYCHO-PASS #10 – – Watch & Learn

Like, the powers-that-be in this world understand that thebest on-site results are found by some combination of impulsiveness andrestraint, and that cases are best solved by some combination of by-the-book conformityand reckless intuition, so they consciously try to put those clashing personalities together.I’m beginning to see how is coming from the same deconstructionistimagination as MADOKA MAGICA…Watch this episode, “Methuselah’s Game” here anddecide for yourself, then read my comments on the previous episode here.Tom Pinchuk’s a writer and personality with a large numberof comics, videos and features like this to his credit

MAOYU #1 – – Special Review

Much as the case was with IS THIS A ZOMBIE?, I feel like I’ve justwatched a stage troupe performing a sketch that squeezes most of yourstereotypical tropes into a little black box theater for a light-touch revue.A sword andsorcery pastiche without much apparent basis in real medieval history or priorfantasy epics?Long, longmonologues that crowbar chapter topics from an Econ 101 textbook into the dialog? An almost-grotesquelybusty female lead? I’ve never been the biggest fan of integrating 2Dcharacters into 3D environments; I’m even less of a fan when those backdrops seem likethey’re getting pulled by stagehands.Look, the show actually makes some valid and interesting points aboutthe gears of progress getting oiled with blood (that is, the notion thatpeace paradoxically needs war), but its attempts at integrating thosepoints into a dramatic narrative arerather outrageously clumsy

I’m sure the two never actually – – * AHEM * – – consummate thatrelationship in this version, either, but if we’re going to having a runningcomparison chart, then these are things which FMA is doing better than FMA:B.Watch this episode, “Her Reason” here and decide for yourself, then read my comments on the previousepisode here.Tom Pinchuk’s a writer and personality with a large numberof comics, videos and features like this to his credit

MICHIKO & HATCHIN #2 – – Watch & Learn

It’s not all about the spectacular car chases, either.Even in the brief amount of screentime we’ve gotten so far, the titular team has truly stepped up as layered-characters who’ve got more to themthan the too-cool archetypes you’d expect from a mother/daughter crime duo. There’s a very precise mixture of toughness and tenderness presented in thescene during their post-firefight heart-to-heart – – Michiko’s chiding Hatchin for crying and telling her to tough it out, but she is still taking a momentout to really comfort her daughter

YU YU HAKUSHO: Re-Visiting “Chapter Black” — Part II

Put a snarky, self-effacing dub track on top of this odd concoction ofheroics and horror, and we’ve got a show with a truly unique mood.Indeed, as much as Ienjoy the brilliantly-rendered fights (and damn, is Studio Pierrot drawing like this is their last shot), I love how this show freely swings from furious fisticuffsto intriguing, terrifying notions like a cursed, RING-like video tape that’s a greater threat to our heroes’ souls than any muscular demon.Obviously, I’ve long since admitted myself as a total mark for thisshow
